WHAT IS SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE?
|
At MHAC, sustainable agriculture means an integrated system of plant and animal production practices that will, over the long term:
-
satisfy human food needs
-
enhance environmental quality and the natural resource base upon which agriculture depends
-
make the most efficient use of on-farm resources
-
integrate natural biological cycles and controls
-
sustain the economic viability of farm operations
-
enhance the quality of life for farmers and society as a whole
|
At MHAC, we believe that since such a large percentage of the population in most African countries are farmers, their ability to provide better food security for their families and communities will stimulate the improvement of living conditions in general.
As people can provide adequate food for themselves, their health improves, they are able to initiate income-producing activities, they can send their children to school, and they no longer need to use unsustainable and environmentally destructive methods to survive.
MHAC is dedicated to creating food security for African people by teaching a method that simply requires knowledge – no expensive machinery nor costly inputs like pesticides or fertilizers are needed.
